| After arriving in Kathmandu on 22nd March our first question addressed to our air cargo. Our Nepalese Agency told us that the barrels are in Kathmandu already. However, during the next day it became clear that there are barrels at the airport, but not all - 12 out of 27 were missing! A long search began. According to our carrier Manlo, the barrels should be in Kathmandu, but the were not. On 29th, the missing barrels were found - in Amsterdam. It took another three days until they were in Kathmandu. So we needed to rearrange all transport from Kathmandu to Lukla, order new Yaks from Lukla. All in all, more than one week delay and we have lost a lot of nerves.Without some of our equipment we decided to fly to Lukla anyway. Nima from our Nepalese Agency Multiadventure told us that he will arrange all the things needed when the tons are in Kathmandu. On 2nd April they arrived and Nima arganized their transport via helicopter to Syangboche, an airstrip close to Namche Bazar. This is much faster than the transport with porters from Lukla but much more expensive, too. The next days we started our acclimatization. It is recommended not to ascend more than 300-400 meters per day in order to give he body time to adapt to higher altitude and reduced amounts of oxygen in the air. Therefore, our first goal was the Island Peak. We decided to make our first acclimatization program at this 6000 m peak, in order to avoid the dangerous Khumbu icefall for several times. |
