29.04.2005: Relaxing is a relative term

Doing laundry, writing and reading emails, body care and, in particular, repacking of our equipment were necessary. Most of this work were already done by Jana during the time when Thomas and me (Olaf) were in Camp 1 and 2. The repacking was necessary, because the system was lost completely during the first days in the basecamp. The pack lists were not worth the paper anymore. It took two days of hard work for Jana to write new lists. But now we have the chance to find an given item without hours of searching.

Another urgent task is the rebuilding of our tent sites. The ice is melting around us and the water has to be canalized. Stone walls have to be built to slow down the melting.

Jana will ascend to camp 1 tomorrow and spend the night there. Thomas and me will climb directly to camp 2 on Sunday and pick up Jana on our way. On Monday, Thomas, Lakpa, Nuri and me want to try to set camp 3 at the Lhotse face. It is not clear yet wheter we will spend the night there or return to camp 2. At the moment it is snowing every day increasing the danger of avalanches in the Lhotse face.
